A restorative yoga class includes the use of bolsters, blocks, blankets, and more. The first half of the class focuses on yin stretching and the final half of the class aims is to bring the nervous system into “rest and digest” mode. There are fewer poses in both the restorative and yin portions of the class. No muscle engagement is cued for restorative; instead, poses are held passively and supported with props. Much of this class is lying down, or in seated versions of asana that can be maintained comfortably for longer periods.
